Meet our Alumni
Lisa Reed ('22)
Graduate student and Teaching Assistant, University of Kentucky
"When I visited Union, I was impressed by how Union took both academics and faith seriously and by how friendly everyone was.I felt welcomed and could see Union was a place I would be able to flourish and prepare for my future life.I could see firsthand Union's four core values being lived out: that of being Christ Centered, People Focused, Excellence Driven, Future Directed. Being interested in majoring in mathematics, I found that sadly many schools I looked at either had an excellent math program or were unapologetically and strongly Biblical. Union was an answer to prayer in that it has an excellent Christian mathematics department. After I visited and talked with professors and current students, I knew I wanted to attend Union. The only question was financial, but God graciously provided scholarships that enabled me to attend."

"Having the skills that you learn in upper level mathematics allows me to better engage in theological discussions and philosophical discussions about God's nature."
"Union's mathematics program really showed me how much creativity and beauty there is in mathematics."
Jessica Vinyard ('17)
Teacher, Oakville High School, St. Louis, Mo.
"The Union mathematics department truly is unlike any other. They challenged me to think deeply about mathematics and the role it plays in my faith. The professors are outstanding and always willing to lend an ear, whether it be in regards to a math problem or just chatting about life. Having professors that knew me by name and got to know me on a personal level made learning in the classroom very natural and fun! I will be forever thankful for the impact Union and the mathematics department has had on my life."

"One of the ways that Union helped prepare me for Duke was the excellent faculty. There were supportive professors there that, more than giving me mathematics and physics knowledge, which they most certainly did, they also supported me and believed that I could go on."
Drake Thompson ('22)
Mathematics Teacher, Baseball/Football Coach, Scotts Hill High School, Reagan, Tenn.
"I had the unique perspective of starting at another college and transferring to Union after two years. The biggest difference that Union presented was the challenge to think about things from another angle. Specifically in mathematics, I had never been challenged to think about the connection between my faith and my study. That quality of my experience at Union is what I feel like not only helped me but pushed me to complete my degree in mathematics. Between both the mathematics and education program, I truly believe I was given the best opportunity for success at Union. On the Mathematics side, professors always made themselves available and would go out of their way to give me the resources I need to be 海角乱伦社区. In addition, the education program, through practicum hours and full year internships I felt like I had 1-2 years of experience before I was ever in a classroom of my own."
Michaela Walters ('16)
Teacher and coach, Scotts Hill High School, Reagan, Tenn.
"As a transfer with a previously undecided major, I came into Union's mathematics program feeling a little behind. Because of this, I struggled at first. Still, I never changed my mind. My love for mathematics never faded, and I was determined to do whatever it took to learn the math and become a great teacher! That included LOTS of late night studying--sometimes all night studying--and praying. But what was so great about every single professor I had is that not once did they give up on me when I struggled. I knew that I could go to any one of them with a problem and they'd talk me through it without hesitation. I truly believe this willingness each one of them had to help came from the deep connection drawn between faith and mathematics. Through this connection, I was able to begin seeing the beauty in mathematics, even through the struggle, which ultimately deepened my own personal faith."

Instructor, Southwest Baptist University
"The community of Christian scholars and intellectuals at Union is something that I never fully appreciated until I came here to [graduate school] and learned that not all professors care to learn your name or invite you to their homes or sit and chat with you in their office. I realize now that all of those little things were really important in shaping the way that I view my own scholarship and my faith in relation to it."
