Honors
Part of Union's Discipline-Specific Honors Program, honors in mathematics is designed to offer our brightest students an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical processes and research than is typically gained by an undergraduate mathematics major. The program consists of four honors-contract upper-level courses taken during the junior and senior years, to include an honors project. The honors project involves research under the mentorship of a faculty member. The student will present their results both on and off campus and will submit their work for publication.

As a STEM minded person, participating in Union's general honors program was challenging. I read great works of literature, wrote essays, and struggled with hard concepts in office hours. Ultimately, I finished the general honors program, and am a much more well-rounded and educated person as a result. Later, my junior and senior years I did discipline specific honors in mathematics. This pushed me to my limits mathematically, and provided great preparation for graduate school, both mathematics wise as I worked on challenging proofs, and personally as I learned skills to persevere through difficulty. One thing I am grateful for is that I always knew I had support behind me, no matter how hard the challenges I faced. My professors supported me, and they were always willing to give their time and effort to help me succeed. This helped me build confidence in my abilities and has prepared me for success.
